The APM Community Podiatry Clinic for the Elderly officially opened on 19 February 2023, graced by Mrs. Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information and Second Minister for Home Affairs, along with members of Covent-Indus Residents’ Committee (CIRC).
Since our very first Community Podiatry Clinic session held on 24th April 2022, our members and volunteers have conducted 15 clinic sessions, benefiting more than 350 elderly residents over the past 10 months.
Our Community Podiatry Clinic was set up to raise awareness of Podiatry in Singapore as well as to emphasise the need for accessible Podiatry care in the Community. We aim to support our senior residents from lower income households by providing accessible and cost-free foot screening as well as toenail trimming services; as many are unable to do so themselves due to old age. The need for lower limb and foot care is especially crucial for elderlies living with diabetes in order to prevent further complications that may lead to ulcers and amputations.

As podiatrists, we in the APM(S) are keenly aware of diabetic foot complications as a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Singaporeans with diabetes, and the importance of regular foot screenings and toenail care in avoiding dire complications such as lower limb amputations.”

After a heartfelt address by the Minister to emphasise on the importance of foot health, Mrs. Josephine Teo presented gift packs to more than 100 elderly residents present at the event and observed the clinic service conducted by our Podiatrist volunteers.
With the inauguration of our first Community Podiatry Clinic in Singapore, the Association would like to thank the Minister for her gracious support, our corporate donors for their generous contributions, as well as all our volunteers at the Association of Podiatric Medicine (Singapore) for devoting their time and effort in making this a success!
